Holiday Folk Market Call for Submissions

The Blurb

As some of you may know, I’ve been working on and off again on my blog, Foundling Folk. My goal is to reach out to families and individuals interested in a folk lifestyle or who want to get in touch with their roots. I mainly concentrate on Hungarian customs, music, dance, etc… but am interested in all Eastern European and other traditions.

I have plans to ramp things up by the end of the year and would like to start by putting together an online holiday folk market.

The goal is to revamp the website and open the store on October 1, 2015.

The website reconstruction has already started in the background, but is not available until the big unveiling in October, so please keep that in mind while you look around.

The Call

I am looking for people who are interested in sharing this experience by submitting works for “consignment”.

The items must be:

Handmade

$5 to $100 in value

Related to folk

This means

Your items could be made using traditional methods or traditional motifs. It could be something you can wear to a táncház (or folk party) or on the street. It can be related to a folk tradition or traditional holiday. As long as it ties back to folk somehow.

They also do not have to be one-of-a-kind, but I’m open to unique pieces as well.

Materials are pretty open, but keep in mind that this is an online store and items will need to be shipped. Customers may be put off if items are too costly to ship.

At this time, we are happy to accept items made in Canada and the USA.

What it’s not

Cookie cutter. Kitschy. If it looks like something your grandma pulled out of the attic for a garage sale, I reserve the right to say no.

How it works

This is the first time I’m doing something like this, but in general, here’s how it’ll work.

  • Once you are accepted, you will receive a consignment contract to look over, sign and return.
  • You should have at least 5 items complete and ready for sale by September 25, 2015.
  • I should receive these items on or before October 1, 2015.
  • When a customer purchases items, I’ll take care of all the nitty-gritty like invoicing, shipping out, etc…
  • I will place restocking orders to you as needed, but I expect this store to take off, so please plan accordingly.
  • You will receive payment at the end of every month, minus my commission.

Further details will be hammered in that consignment agreement. I reserve the right to tweak this process as the market dictates.

How to Submit

If you’re interested in submitting an idea, please send photos, sketches or drawings, along with a description and estimated price tag to andi.speck@yahoo.com.

If you’d like your items to be one of the first to be posted to the store, send your info by September 1, 2015.

I will still accept items after this date, as I’m expecting to continue the market right up until January.

If you have any questions, just drop me a line!

Cheers!

Andrea Speck
